ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Mongol). Timurids. Abu Sa’id, AH 855-873 / AD 1451-1469. Tanka (Silver, 27 mm, 6.31 g), Samarqand. Countermark on the obverse: 'Shahrukh bahadur' within square. Rev. Countermark on the reverse: 'Adil Sultan Abu Sa'id Gurkan' ('the just Sultan Abu Sa'id Gurkan' in Arabic) within quatrefoil. Zeno-231253 (this coin). Cf. Album 2402.1 (for the countermark on the obverse) and 2417 (for the countermark on the reverse). Rare with both countermarks. Very fine.
